“Back in the day” buying portfolios of bulk REO and Non-Performing Notes (NPN) was relatively uncomplicated for two reasons.
1. Very few institutions had distressed assets in large numbers.

You can no longer use the front door approach throwing your weight and financial statements around thinking you’re the 800 pound gorilla and as such, you will be give special treatment. Ask yourself: “How many deals do we learn of AFTER they became a closed deal?” More than we care to count.
